Mechanical Technician / Assembler

Reference: mt_1775860943

Role Summary

The mechanical technician/assembler supports the automation team by physically assembling and testing the large volume of custom equipment being built. As the team designs and iterates on machines, someone needs to be building them, and this role fills that gap. This person works from engineering drawings and BOMs to assemble mechanical components, sub-assemblies, and complete equipment units, then supports initial testing and debug alongside the engineers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assemble custom automation equipment and fixtures from engineering drawings and BOMs
  • Perform mechanical assembly of sub-assemblies and complete equipment units including fitting, aligning, and adjusting components
  • Support bench testing, prototyping, and iterative debug of equipment alongside engineers
  • Identify and flag issues with fit, function, or assembly sequence and communicate them to the design engineers
  • Maintain organization of parts, tools, and work areas in the lab and shop
  • Support repeat builds of proven equipment for production line deployment
  • Assist with equipment installation and setup on the production floor

Required Skills & Experience

  • 3+ years of experience in mechanical assembly of custom equipment, prototypes, or precision mechanical systems
  • Ability to read and work from mechanical drawings, BOMs, and assembly instructions
  • Hands-on mechanical aptitude: comfortable with hand tools, precision measurement instruments, and shop equipment
  • Experience with fitting, aligning, and adjusting mechanical components to tight tolerances
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work methodically through complex assemblies
  • Good communication skills to provide feedback to engineers on assembly issues

Preferred Experience

  • Background in automation equipment, tooling, or fixture assembly
  • Experience with precision assembly for small form-factor or fiber optic products
  • Familiarity with pneumatic components, linear motion systems, bearings, and actuators
  • Basic understanding of electrical wiring and sensor installation
