Job Title: CODESYS Controls Software Engineer
Industry: Robotics / Industrial Automation
Location: Bellevue, WA & Washington, DC (Onsite/Hybrid)
We are seeking a highly skilled CODESYS Controls Software Engineer to support development and integration efforts within a fast-paced robotics and industrial automation environment. This role will augment an existing controls engineering team responsible for delivering scalable, high-performance automation systems across production and operational platforms.
The ideal candidate will have strong experience in PLC programming using CODESYS, with a deep understanding of motion control, real-time systems, and industrial automation frameworks.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop, test, and maintain PLC applications using CODESYS for automation and robotics systems
- Design and implement control logic for complex electromechanical systems, including conveyors, robotics, and material handling equipment
- Integrate PLC software with HMI/SCADA systems and higher-level control platforms
- Work closely with cross-functional teams including mechanical, electrical, and systems engineers to ensure seamless system integration
- Support commissioning, debugging, and troubleshooting of automation systems in lab and production environments
- Analyze system performance and implement improvements for reliability, scalability, and efficiency
- Participate in code reviews, documentation, and adherence to engineering best practices
- Provide support for deployed systems, including issue triage and root cause analysis
Required Qualifications:
- Strong hands-on experience with CODESYS (IEC 61131-3 programming languages: Structured Text, Ladder Logic, Function Block)
- Experience developing PLC-based control systems in industrial or robotics environments
- Solid understanding of motion control systems (servo motors, drives, encoders)
- Experience integrating with HMI/SCADA platforms
- Familiarity with industrial communication protocols (EtherCAT, Modbus, CAN, OPC UA, etc.)
- Strong debugging and troubleshooting skills in real-time systems
- Experience working in Linux or embedded environments is a plus
- Ability to work onsite or in a hybrid model in Bellevue, WA or Washington, DC
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in robotics, warehouse automation, or material handling systems
- Exposure to safety systems and standards (e.g., functional safety, SIL)
- Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git) and CI/CD pipelines
- Prior experience supporting large-scale deployed automation systems
Day-to-Day Duties:
- Write and modify PLC code in CODESYS to support new features and system enhancements
- Collaborate with engineering teams to integrate hardware and software components
- Debug and resolve issues identified during testing or in production environments
- Support system validation, commissioning, and performance tuning
- Document system design, changes, and troubleshooting steps
Additional Information:
- This role supports a high-visibility automation program with ongoing development and deployment cycles
- Candidates should be comfortable working in a fast-paced, engineering-driven environment with evolving requirements
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work cross-functionally are essential
