Senior RF DOCSIS Test Engineer - Certification & Lab Validation
We are seeking an experienced Senior RF DOCSIS Test Engineer to support certification and validation of broadband devices within a high-performance lab environment. This role focuses on DOCSIS RF/PHY layer testing, device interoperability, and ensuring compliance with industry certification standards.
You will work closely with cross-functional engineering teams and external stakeholders to validate cable modems, gateways, and network devices across HFC architectures, supporting product readiness for large-scale operator deployment.
Key Responsibilities
- Execute RF and PHY layer certification testing for DOCSIS 3.0 / 3.1 devices, including modems and gateways
- Design, develop, and maintain test environments, procedures, and automation frameworks
- Analyze RF performance including OFDM/OFDMA, MER, BER, FEC, and channel bonding
- Troubleshoot complex issues across modem, CMTS, and HFC network environments
- Operate advanced RF test equipment including:
- Spectrum analyzers
- Signal generators
- Oscilloscopes
- Network analyzers
- Utilize industry platforms such as Averna and ePIDoX PHY test systems
- Generate detailed test reports, certification documentation, and technical recommendations
- Collaborate with engineering teams to define and execute acceptance test procedures (ATPs)
- Support interoperability testing across multi-vendor environments
- Contribute to continuous improvement of lab efficiency and certification throughput
Required Qualifications
- 5-10+ years of experience in RF testing, DOCSIS certification, or cable broadband engineering
- Strong knowledge of:
- DOCSIS 3.0 / 3.1 standards
- HFC network architecture
- Cable modem and CMTS interactions
- Hands-on experience with RF test and measurement equipment
- Deep understanding of PHY layer performance and signal integrity
- Experience diagnosing cross-system RF and network issues
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently in a lab-based testing environment
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Averna XT and/or ePIDoX PHY platforms
- Familiarity with CableLabs certification processes and test methodologies
- Experience with automation and scripting (Python, Tcl, or similar)
- Exposure to Wi-Fi or wireless testing (802.11, 5G NR)
- Background working with OEMs, operators, or broadband device manufacturers
Work Environment
- Primarily lab-based role supporting RF testing and certification activities
- Hands-on work with hardware, test equipment, and broadband devices
- Collaboration with both internal teams and external engineering stakeholders
