Job Title: Platform & Performance Support Engineer
Location: Dublin, Ireland (Hybrid)
Contract Type: 11 Months Contract
Role Overview
We are seeking a Platform & Performance Support Engineer to manage and resolve the most complex technical issues related to system performance, availability, and scalability within an enterprise SaaS environment. This role acts as the final escalation point within technical support and plays a key role in mentoring junior engineers.
This is a customer-facing role, requiring strong communication skills alongside deep technical expertise. The successful candidate will quickly build strong platform knowledge and work closely with high-value customers, administrators, and development teams to ensure system stability and customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as the final escalation point for complex performance and availability-related technical issues.
- Diagnose and resolve issues related to system degradation, scalability, and uptime.
- Analyse logs, metrics, and database performance to identify root causes and propose long-term fixes.
- Mentor and guide junior support engineers across troubleshooting techniques and best practices.
- Work directly with customers to communicate findings, solutions, and preventive recommendations.
- Collaborate with engineering, infrastructure, and operations teams on critical incidents.
- Participate in on-call rotations, including evenings and weekends, as required.
- Maintain high standards of documentation, case hygiene, and knowledge sharing.
Required Skills & Experience
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in technical or platform support roles.
- Proven ability to troubleshoot complex, high-impact technical issues.
- Strong experience with relational databases (e.g., MySQL, Oracle), including query analysis and tuning.
- Hands-on experience with Java and ability to read/debug object-oriented code.
- Experience with one or more scripting languages: JavaScript, Python, Perl, UNIX Shell, Windows Shell.
- Advanced experience administering and troubleshooting Linux/UNIX systems.
- Solid understanding of web application architecture and components.
- Experience diagnosing performance degradation (e.g., explain plans, database tuning).
- Strong understanding of basic networking concepts and system administration.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a team.
- Excellent time management and prioritisation skills.
- Strong customer focus with a commitment to quality and service excellence.
