Senior Databricks Data Architect - Data Transformation Programme
The Opportunity
As the lead architect on-site, you will collaborate closely with stakeholders to shape data strategy, design scalable architectures, and guide delivery teams in building robust, production-grade data solutions.
This is a hands-on leadership role that combines architecture, delivery oversight, and stakeholder engagement.
Key Responsibilities
Data Architecture & Platform Design
- Design and implement scalable data models within a Databricks lakehouse framework
- Structure data across layered architectures (e.g. ingestion, refinement, and consumption layers) to support analytics and reporting use cases
Pipeline Development & Integration
- Architect and oversee the build of reliable data ingestion and transformation pipelines
- Work across a range of data sources, ensuring efficient and scalable processing
Stakeholder Collaboration
- Act as a primary point of contact for business and technical stakeholders
- Translate business objectives into clear, scalable data solutions
Requirements & Solution Design
- Gather and define data requirements, shaping them into robust architectural designs
- Ensure solutions are maintainable, extensible, and aligned with business priorities
Platform Ownership & Continuous Improvement
- Take ownership of the evolving data platform and drive ongoing enhancements
- Adapt solutions to meet changing requirements and emerging needs
Team Leadership
- Provide direction to both local and distributed (offshore) delivery teams
- Establish consistent delivery standards and ensure successful execution
Governance & Data Quality
- Implement best practices in data governance, lineage, and quality management
- Ensure data assets are trusted, well-documented, and fit for purpose
Performance & Optimisation
- Identify opportunities to improve performance, scalability, and cost efficiency
- Optimise processing within distributed data environments
Standards & Documentation
- Develop and maintain architecture standards, models, and documentation
- Promote consistency and reusability across the platform
Deployment & Delivery Support
- Support release and deployment cycles
- Ensure solutions are production-ready and aligned with enterprise standards
Required Experience
Background
- Degree in Computer Science, IT, or a related field
- Extensive experience (8+ years) in data architecture, data platforms, or data engineering
Data Modelling
- Strong expertise across conceptual, logical, and physical data modelling
- Experience working within modern lakehouse or large-scale data environments
Databricks Expertise
- Proven hands-on experience designing and supporting Databricks platforms
- Strong knowledge of Spark processing and scalable data architecture patterns
Data Engineering & Integration
- Experience delivering batch and/or streaming data pipelines
- Familiarity with tools such as Azure Data Factory or similar platforms
Cloud & Data Platforms
- Strong understanding of cloud-based data environments (Azure preferred)
- Experience integrating with enterprise data systems (e.g. SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL)
Analytics & Reporting
- Awareness of BI tools such as Power BI or Tableau and how data structures support reporting
Industry Exposure (Nice to Have)
- Experience in regulated environments such as Financial Services or Insurance
