Java Data Engineer IV (Contractor)

About the Role
Our team is seeking a Java Data Engineer IV to support a high-impact data engineering initiative focused on modernizing and scaling enterprise analytics. This role will be instrumental in building and enhancing the data pipelines that power inventory, supply, and yield reporting, enabling business-critical analytics delivered through Tableau Cloud.
You'll work alongside experienced data engineers to develop robust ETL solutions, migrate legacy data workloads, and build cloud-native data pipelines using AWS, Databricks, and Snowflake. This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer who enjoys solving complex data challenges in a collaborative Agile environment.
What You'll Do
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable ETL and data engineering pipelines.
- Build data pipelines that ingest, transform, and load enterprise data into Databricks.
- Develop and enhance Java-based applications and microservices supporting data processing.
- Partner with engineering teams to translate business requirements into reliable technical solutions.
- Build, test, and optimize pipelines using AWS, Databricks, and Snowflake.
- Create technical documentation, design specifications, and support quality assurance efforts.
- Develop infrastructure using Terraform for repeatable cloud deployments.
- Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions or Concourse.
- Troubleshoot production issues and provide post-deployment support.
- Improve reliability, reduce single points of failure (SPOF), and implement risk mitigation strategies.
- Enhance and modernize legacy data engineering jobs while supporting cloud migration initiatives.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to establish engineering best practices and improve platform performance.
Required Qualifications
- 7+ years of software engineering or data engineering experience.
- Strong Java development experience.
- Hands-on experience with Spring Boot and Microservices architecture.
- Experience building ETL or data integration pipelines.
- Experience with AWS cloud services.
- Strong SQL skills.
- Experience with Databricks and/or Snowflake.
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code using Terraform.
- Experience building CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions, Concourse, Jenkins, or similar tools.
- Strong understanding of software testing, quality assurance, and production support.
- Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Experience working in Agile development environments.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting enterprise analytics or reporting platforms.
- Experience migrating legacy ETL workloads to modern cloud platforms.
- Familiarity with Tableau Cloud or other BI platforms.
- Experience optimizing large-scale data pipelines for performance and reliability.
- Knowledge of data governance and cloud data architecture best practices.
