Fiber Engineer
About the Role
We are seeking a Fiber Field Technician to support fiber network deployment projects, including metro dark fiber and long-haul network infrastructure. This role is responsible for end-to-end fiber characterization, testing, troubleshooting, and validation to ensure fiber routes are delivered on schedule and meet technical and customer requirements.
This is a field-based position requiring regular travel to customer and data center locations. The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on fiber testing experience, excellent troubleshooting skills, and the ability to work independently while collaborating with project teams, vendors, and stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform fiber testing, characterization, and connectivity validation.
- Conduct OTDR testing and analyze results to identify network issues and points of failure.
- Troubleshoot fiber network performance and connectivity problems.
- Support metro dark fiber and long-haul network deployments.
- Maintain testing records, project documentation, and technical reports.
- Ensure adherence to site standards, including grounding, power, rack layouts, cooling systems, and cable routing.
- Coordinate with project teams, vendors, and stakeholders to meet delivery timelines.
- Provide professional customer-facing support and technical expertise.
- Travel regularly to customer facilities and data center locations as required.
Required Qualifications
- Associate degree in a technical discipline or equivalent hands-on industry experience.
- Experience working with ISP and OSP fiber infrastructure.
- Strong knowledge of OTDR testing and interpretation of test results.
- Experience with fiber optic cable design, deployment, and implementation.
- Strong understanding of telecommunications and fiber network infrastructure.
- Knowledge of fiber types, connector types, and fiber splicing methodologies.
- Hands-on troubleshooting experience with fiber networks.
- Experience working in data center environments.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Willingness to travel frequently and work overtime when needed.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of dark fiber delivery and network deployments.
- Experience with fusion splicing.
- Understanding of carrier hotel interconnectivity, cabling standards, and physical interfaces.
- Experience coordinating telecommunications infrastructure projects.
- Strong project coordination and organizational skills.
