About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Fiber Engineer to join a dynamic field team supporting fiber network testing, troubleshooting, and remediation activities across ISP and OSP environments. This role requires hands-on expertise in OTDR analysis, fiber characterization, bidirectional testing, and fusion splicing to ensure the performance, reliability, and integrity of fiber optic networks.
The ideal candidate will have a strong telecommunications background and be comfortable working directly with vendors, project managers, and technical teams while traveling to customer sites as needed.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform OTDR testing to validate fiber paths and identify faults, bends, splice losses, and connectivity issues
- Conduct fiber characterization, CD/PMD testing, bidirectional testing, and power meter/laser testing
- Troubleshoot fiber network issues and provide remediation recommendations
- Perform fusion splicing, fiber repairs, and restoration activities as required
- Conduct fiber end-face inspection and cleaning to maintain optimal network performance
- Prepare detailed test reports, redlined fiber documentation, and demarcation maps
- Document findings, remediation efforts, and retest results for project stakeholders
- Collaborate with vendors, project managers, and internal teams to support project delivery and timelines
- Travel to customer sites to perform testing, troubleshooting, and remediation activities
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in Fiber Optics, Telecommunications, or a related field
- Experience working with both ISP (Inside Plant) and OSP (Outside Plant) fiber networks
- Strong expertise in OTDR testing, analysis, and troubleshooting
- Experience with CD/PMD testing, bidirectional testing, and power/loss measurements
- Hands-on experience with fusion splicing and fiber remediation
- Knowledge of fiber end-face inspection and cleaning procedures
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication and documentation abilities
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
- Willingness to travel as required
Preferred Skills
- Experience supporting fiber deployment, maintenance, and network validation projects
- Ability to interpret complex test results and communicate findings to technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Experience working closely with vendors and project management teams
Deliverables
- OTDR, CD/PMD, and power/loss testing reports
- Redlined fiber path documentation and demarcation maps
- Documented remediation activities and retest results
- Test findings and performance recommendations provided to vendors and stakeholders
Work Environment
- Work as part of a small, collaborative field team
- Partner closely with Project Managers, Fiber Analysts, and vendor contacts
- Flexible travel schedule based on project and customer requirements
