This is a hands-on technical leadership role focused on DOCSIS systems, CMTS interoperability, lab validation, and advanced troubleshooting across DOCSIS broadband deployments. The role emphasizes test lab ownership, root-cause analysis, and close collaboration with chipset vendors and customers to ensure high-performance and stable DOCSIS gateway solutions.
You will work closely with global R&D teams, CMTS vendors, and silicon providers to drive end-to-end DOCSIS validation, interoperability, and performance optimization for DOCSIS 3.0, 3.1, and emerging 4.0 technologies.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead DOCSIS lab setup, validation, and qualification activities, including interoperability testing with CMTS platforms.
- Design and execute comprehensive DOCSIS test plans covering performance, provisioning, stability, and feature validation.
- Drive root cause analysis of complex DOCSIS issues using logs, packet captures, and system-level debugging.
- Troubleshoot field and lab issues using:
- Wireshark / tcpdump
- Cable modem & gateway logs
- SNMP and telemetry data
- Linux debugging tools (gdb, strace, etc.)
- Collaborate with CMTS vendors and SoC/chipset providers (e.g., Broadcom, MaxLinear) to resolve interoperability and performance issues.
- Analyze DOCSIS behaviors across layers (PHY/MAC/IP) and identify bottlenecks or failures.
- Support customer deployments and field issue reproduction, providing deep technical insights and resolutions.
- Guide and validate DOCSIS provisioning workflows:
- DHCP / TFTP / TOD
- Config files (TLVs)
- Security, certificates, and PKI handling
- Ensure robustness of firmware upgrade flows, secure boot, and DOCSIS security mechanisms.
- Maintain and enhance lab infrastructure, automation, documentation, and internal knowledge base.
- Provide technical input on DOCSIS roadmap, standards evolution, and future feature development.
Required Skills & Experience
- Strong hands-on experience with DOCSIS 3.0 / 3.1 (DOCSIS 4.0 knowledge highly preferred).
- Proven expertise in DOCSIS test labs, CMTS interoperability, and system-level validation.
- Strong experience in troubleshooting and root-cause analysis of DOCSIS/network issues.
- Deep understanding of:
- DOCSIS provisioning flows (DHCP, TFTP, TOD, TLVs)
- Certificates, PKI, and security mechanisms
- Proficiency with debugging and analysis tools.
- Solid networking fundamentals:
- IPv4/IPv6, NAT, DNS, DHCP, HTTP/HTTPS, SNMP
- Experience working with CMTS platforms and chipset vendors (Broadcom, MaxLinear, etc.).
- Strong ability to analyze logs, identify patterns, and isolate root causes across system layers.
- Experience with embedded Linux environments (debugging focus; deep development not mandatory).
Ability to lead technical discussions, mentor engineers, and work with cross-functional/global teams.
