Job Opportunity: Level 2 Network Engineer (Public Sector) - Dublin City Centre

Contract: 3-Year Day Rate Contract
Location: Dublin City Centre (with multi-site support across Ireland)

Our client, a leading public sector organization, is seeking an experienced Level 2 Network Engineer to join their dynamic team. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in maintaining and optimizing a large-scale, mission-critical network infrastructure across multiple locations in Ireland. This role is well-suited for an Infrastructure Engineer with strong networking experience looking to advance their career in a public sector environment.

Key Responsibilities

Network Operations & Support

  • Manage and support LAN/WAN networks across 130+ sites.
  • Configure and troubleshoot Alcatel, Cisco, and other network switches and routers.
  • Ensure network security policies are maintained and industry best practices followed.
  • Collaborate with third-party WAN providers for service continuity.
  • Troubleshoot VPN technologies and SD-WAN solutions.

Wireless Network & Unified Communications Support

  • Maintain and troubleshoot enterprise wireless networks (802.11 standards).
  • Administer HP Aruba wireless solutions, including ClearPass and Airwave.
  • Provide support for cloud-based Unified Communications systems (e.g., 8x8 or similar).

Network Monitoring & Performance Management

  • Utilize Omnivista, Zabbix, Wireshark, and FortiManager for network monitoring.
  • Proactively resolve network incidents to prevent downtime.
  • Respond to Level 2 and priority Helpdesk tickets.

Data Centre & Infrastructure Management

  • Manage data centre and comms room infrastructure.
  • Maintain cabling standards across multiple locations.
  • Oversee environmental controls (UPS, air conditioning, IoT sensors).

Key Requirements

Technical Expertise

  • Strong understanding of LAN/WAN environments, switching, and routing protocols (Ethernet, TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, OSPF, BGP).
  • Hands-on experience with Fortinet SD-WAN or similar.
  • Experience in VPN configuration and troubleshooting.
  • Knowledge of Aruba Wireless Controllers, Aruba ClearPass, and Airwave.
  • Proficiency in using Omnivista, Wireshark, Zabbix, or similar network monitoring tools.

Security & Compliance

  • Strong focus on network security and industry best practices.

Qualifications (Preferred, Not Mandatory)

  • Relevant IT networking certifications (CCNA, CCNP, JNCIA, JNCIS, Fortinet NSE) are advantageous.
