Job Summary
The Network Operations & Asset Management Technician is responsible for supporting the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and optimization of telecommunications network infrastructure. This role includes asset management, coordination of materials logistics, preventive maintenance of critical systems, and ensuring network reliability across various transmission technologies and equipment.
Key Responsibilities
Network Operations & Maintenance
Troubleshoot network equipment, isolate faults, and restore services efficiently to minimize downtime.Remove and replace defective modules and components, ensuring proper repair tracking and lifecycle management.Assist in the installation, provisioning, testing, and maintenance of services ranging from DS0 through OC192.Support deployment and testing of network technologies including:Fiber Optic Transmission SystemsEthernet and IP NetworksSONET and Wavelength ServicesNext-Generation technologies such as Edge ComputeInstall and test transmission, switching, and customer premise equipment (CPE).Proactively identify potential risks and problem areas to maintain network integrity.Infrastructure & Preventive Maintenance
Perform scheduled preventive maintenance and inspections on:HVAC systemsHigh-voltage electrical systemsDC power plants and AC power systems (limited scope)Assist with DC power installations, including tertiary and BDCBB systems.Ensure reliability and efficiency of critical infrastructure that supports network operations.Asset & Inventory Management
Manage inventory of tools, test sets, spare parts, and network equipment.Coordinate shipping, receiving, and tracking of company and customer materials.Maintain accurate inventory records and ensure timely replenishment of consumables and field materials.Track asset utilization and ensure proper repair and replacement processes.Documentation & Reporting
Update installation records, logs, and detailed notes within trouble ticketing systems.Record all activities, including provisioning, maintenance, and troubleshooting actions.Provide regular updates, reports, and escalation summaries to management.Ensure all transactional updates are properly documented within company systems.Systems & Tools Utilization
Utilize industry-standard tools and software for:Network troubleshooting and diagnosticsAsset tracking and inventory managementTrouble ticketing and time tracking systemsAccurately locate, mark, and protect underground outside plant facilities.Collaboration & Continuous Improvement
Work collaboratively with internal teams and external stakeholders to resolve network issues.Participate in training and coaching to develop technical and system knowledge.Evaluate performance using provided tools and reports, identifying areas of improvement.Support installation, modification, and decommissioning of network infrastructure as needed.Qualifications
Basic understanding of telecommunications and network infrastructure (Fiber, Ethernet, SONET, IP).Knowledge of AC/DC power systems and critical infrastructure maintenance.Familiarity with diagnostic tools and network troubleshooting processes.Strong organizational and asset management skills.Ability to interpret technical documentation and maintain accurate records.Willingness to learn internal systems (ticketing, provisioning, inventory management).
