Overview:
The project focuses on the development, assembly, testing, and validation of advanced fiber optic connectivity products used in modern telecommunications infrastructure. These high-precision components are designed to enable high-speed, reliable data transmission across large-scale data networks. The final products are delivered to major global clients, supporting data centers and next-generation communication systems. The Fiber Technician supports engineering and manufacturing operations by performing precision assembly, prototype builds, and product testing of fiber optic components. This role works closely with cross-functional engineering teams in a collaborative environment, contributing to pilot production, troubleshooting, and product validation to ensure high-quality output and manufacturing efficiency.
Key Responsibilities:
Perform precision assembly of fiber optic components and connectivity productsSupport prototype builds and pilot production linesConduct testing and validation to ensure product performance and quality standardsTroubleshoot assembly and production issues alongside engineering teamsFollow and interpret work instructions, engineering drawings, and technical documentationUtilize microscopes and precision tools for handling small componentsPerform quality inspections using measuring devices and inspection toolsCollaborate with multiple teams and stations to maintain smooth production workflowAssist in process improvements and continuous optimization initiativesQualifications & Requirements:

Detailed Job Description:We are seeking a Process Engineer to develop, optimize, and sustain manufacturing processes for fiber optic components and assemblies. This role requires deep expertise in fiber preparation, polishing, termination, inspection, connectorization, splicing, and optical performance testing. You will lead process development initiatives, support cross-functional teams, and drive improvements in quality, yield, and manufacturing efficiency. This position is based onsite in the southwest metro area of Minneapolis.
Key Responsibilities:
Identify, develop, and implement manufacturing processes for fiber optic connector terminationDesign and validate processes for fiber splicing, fusion operations, and optical alignmentCreate specifications, work instructions, and control plans for all fiber optic processesLead DOE (Design of Experiments) and capability studies to improve yield and reduce process variationWork in parallel with automation and process teams to develop new technology for fiber opticsDevelop global process integration for new productsProvide advanced troubleshooting support for production issues related to polishing defects, insertion loss variability, back-reflection issues, or contaminationIntroduce new equipment such as polishers, interferometers, automated fiber cleavers, splicers, and optical test systemsTrain technicians and engineers on new tools and processesPerform root-cause analysis and corrective actions related to fiber optic manufacturing failuresEnsure compliance with applicable quality standards (IEC, Telcordia GR-326, internal manufacturing specs)Maintain process documentation including PFMEAs, control plans, work instructions, and qualification protocolsPartner with R&D, Quality, Operations, and NPI teams to support product launchesDrive continuous improvement initiatives using Lean, Six Sigma, and statistical analysisLead technical reviews and mentor junior engineers in fiber optic technologies and best practicesRequired Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in engineering (Mechanical, Optical, Manufacturing, or related field)Strong knowledge of optical materials, adhesives, epoxy curing, ferrules, and connector standardsProficiency in Lean/Six Sigma, SPC, capability analysis, manufacturing validation processes (IQ, OQ, PQ), and DOE developmentAbility to write clear documentation and train othersPreferred Qualifications:
5+ years of work experience in the industry2+ years of hands-on experience in fiber optic manufacturing processes including fiber optic termination, connector knowledge, optical testing (IL, RL, geometry, end-face quality), and splicing processesProcess development and troubleshooting with strong automation directionExperience with automated fiber optic equipment and high-volume manufacturingFamiliarity with fiber optic cables (PM fiber, large-core, multi-fiber arrays)Experience leading cross-functional engineering projectsKey Skills:
