Data Center Installation & Test Engineer (Fiber Optic / Rack & Stack)
About the Role
We're looking for a hands on Data Center Installation & Test Engineer to join an onsite team supporting live, mission critical data center environments in Oregon. You'll own the physical layer from start to finish: building out racks and cabling, testing every link, validating the install before handover, and jumping in to fix things when they break. This role includes an on call rotation, so you'll be part of the team keeping the site up and running after hours when it counts.
What You'll Be Doing
Installing racks, cabinets, containment, and cable management, then mounting network, optical, and server equipment
Running, routing, and dressing fiber and copper cabling to customer and industry standards
Installing patch panels and high density fiber panels
Inspecting, cleaning, and testing fiber using a light source and power meter, including polarity and continuity checks
Running OTDR traces when the project calls for it
Certifying copper runs and submitting clean, accurate test results
Checking every build against drawings, rack elevations, and MOPs before handover
Supporting moves, adds, changes, migrations, and decommissions in live environments
Tracking down failed links and physical layer faults, swapping failed hardware, and working with remote engineers, OEMs, and vendors to restore service
Taking part in the on call rotation and coming onsite after hours for urgent break fix work
What You Bring
Experience working inside operational data centers
A strong background in rack and stack and structured cabling
Hands on experience installing and testing both fiber and copper
Comfort with light source and power meter testing
Solid habits around fiber inspection, cleaning, and handling
Ability to work from drawings, rack elevations, and MOPs
A methodical approach to troubleshooting
Clean documentation of installs, test results, and fault fixes
Safe, disciplined work habits around live infrastructure
Willingness to join an on call rotation
Bonus Points If You Have
OTDR testing experience
Fiber splicing
Experience in high density fiber environments
Installed optical transport or network gear
Server or network hardware break fix experience
Supported migrations or maintenance windows
Industry certifications such as BICSI or CFOT
