Automation Controls Engineer (PLC Programming)
About the Opportunity
We're launching a brand new fiber optic connector product built for the growing demand from AI data centers, and our automation team is building the equipment to make it. We design, build and program our own custom machines in house. Several new machines are fully built and ready for their control software, and we need an experienced controls engineer to bring them to life. If you enjoy writing code from a blank page and seeing a machine run for the first time, this role is for you.
Your Responsibilities
Develop new PLC programs from the ground up in Allen Bradley Studio 5000, using ladder logic and structured text
Program control software in Python on machines built around Python based platforms
Design operator HMI screens (ProFace) for running, monitoring and troubleshooting equipment
Set up and tune servo axes, multi axis motion and Epson robot programs
Bring Keyence vision systems, sensors and IO together into complete machine logic
Build and update electrical schematics, IO lists and control panel layouts
Take machines through FAT, commissioning and debug, managing code revisions along the way
Work side by side with mechanical and vision engineers in a collaborative, whiteboard driven team
What We're Looking For
A track record of writing PLC programs from scratch for new equipment, not just maintaining existing code
Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Controls or Mechatronics Engineering, or a related field
5+ years of hands on industrial automation or machine controls experience
Strong Allen Bradley Studio 5000 skills. Experience with Beckhoff, Siemens or CODESYS is also welcome
Background in HMI development, motion control and robot integration
Familiarity with EtherNet/IP, PROFINET, EtherCAT, Modbus or OPC UA
Understanding of machine safety and electrical safety standards (OSHA, NFPA 70E)
Bonus Points
Python for machine control or test automation
Experience with ProFace HMIs, Keyence vision or Epson robots
System integrator or machine builder background
Electrical CAD experience (SolidWorks Electrical or similar)
Why You'll Like It Here
This is true greenfield work. You'll own complete machines from first line of code through production, on a new product line with years of roadmap ahead, and work alongside a hands on team that values curiosity and collaboration.
