We are looking for an experienced Central Office / Transport Field Technician to support carrier-grade telecommunications infrastructure across Long Island.
This role is heavily focused on hands-on field work supporting legacy and modern transport systems, including DS0, DS1/T1, DS3/T3, SONET OC-3 through OC-192, Ethernet, IP, wavelength, and DWDM.
The ideal candidate will come from an ILEC, CLEC, MSO, carrier, or fiber-network environment and will be comfortable working directly at telecom sites, central offices, huts, shelters, and other network locations.
Key ResponsibilitiesTravel throughout the assigned territory to perform onsite network maintenance, troubleshooting, testing, and restoration.Install, provision, test, and maintain:DS0DS1 / T1DS3 / T3SONET OC-3, OC-12, OC-48, and OC-192Ethernet and IP transportWavelength and DWDM servicesTroubleshoot alarms, circuit failures, transport degradation, loss-of-signal events, and hardware failures.Replace defective cards, modules, optics, shelves, and related transport equipment.Perform circuit turn-up, fault isolation, and service restoration.Use field test equipment including:OTDROptical power metersFiber inspection scopesViavi / JDSU equipmentEXFO test equipmentPerform fiber inspection, cleaning, testing, and troubleshooting.Support network outages and emergency restoration activity in the field.Maintain truck stock, field spares, optics, tools, replacement hardware, and test equipment.Support critical infrastructure including telecom DC power systems and basic site preventive maintenance.Required ExperienceHands-on field experience in telecommunications.Background working for or supporting an ILEC, CLEC, MSO, carrier, or fiber provider.Strong working knowledge of legacy TDM and SONET transport.Experience with DS1, DS3, SONET, and optical transport strongly preferred.Experience supporting Ethernet, IP, DWDM, or wavelength services.Familiarity with fiber testing and field troubleshooting.Ability to work independently across multiple telecom sites.Target BackgroundsRelevant candidates may have held titles such as:

Ideal CandidateThe strongest candidate is a true field-based telecom technician who has physically worked on transport equipment in live carrier environments.
This is not a NOC, design, or desk-based engineering role. We are specifically seeking someone who is comfortable being onsite, troubleshooting equipment, testing circuits, replacing hardware, and restoring service in the field.
