About the program

Amazon Robotics is building its own conveyance controls platform from the ground up, replacing the outside-integrator software that runs the conveyor and sortation systems in its fulfillment centers today. The platform is CODESYS V3 on Linux industrial PCs, EtherCAT and IO-Link field networks, and an object-oriented Structured Text codebase built as reusable device libraries, standard features and configurable site applications. The first site goes live in Atlanta in early 2027, with further sites starting development in January and a multi-year, multi-site roadmap behind them.

GCS Tech Talent is the controls engineering partner on the program. Our engineers work alongside Amazon's own team in the Seattle lab and remotely, on modern software practices: Git with code review, daily stand-ups, and a pace-over-perfection delivery culture. What you will do

Design, develop and test controls software in CODESYS V3 Structured Text: device libraries, feature logic (accumulation, merge, divert, sortation) and control-area applications Integrate and bring up field hardware in the lab and on site: drives, photo-eyes, I/O and safety devices over EtherCAT and IO-Link Assemble site applications from engineering drawings: read electrical schematics, build and validate configurations for each control area Submit your work through Git with code review and contribute to the team's shared libraries and standards Run functional and integration tests, record results and hand over to the commissioning team with clear documentation Support site commissioning in Atlanta from early 2027: I/O checkout, device bring-up, fault-finding and punch-list closure

What we are looking for

Current, hands-on Structured Text (IEC 61131-3) development - CODESYS V3 preferred; TwinCAT 3 or similar also considered Experience working in Git with branches, pull requests and code review as part of a team A traditional controls foundation: you can read electrical schematics and panel drawings, understand drives, I/O, sensors and safety circuits, and have commissioned systems on a plant floor Comfortable working independently on site with hardware, not only at a keyboard Clear written and verbal communication in a fast-moving, ambiguous engineering environment

We're launching a brand new fiber optic connector product built for the growing demand from AI data centers, and our automation team is building the equipment to make it. We design, build and program our own custom machines in house. Several new machines are fully built and ready for their control software, and we need an experienced controls engineer to bring them to life. If you enjoy writing code from a blank page and seeing a machine run for the first time, this role is for you.

Your Responsibilities
Develop new PLC programs from the ground up in Allen Bradley Studio 5000, using ladder logic and structured text
Program control software in Python on machines built around Python based platforms
Design operator HMI screens (ProFace) for running, monitoring and troubleshooting equipment
Set up and tune servo axes, multi axis motion and Epson robot programs
Bring Keyence vision systems, sensors and IO together into complete machine logic
Build and update electrical schematics, IO lists and control panel layouts
Take machines through FAT, commissioning and debug, managing code revisions along the way
Work side by side with mechanical and vision engineers in a collaborative, whiteboard driven team

What We're Looking For
A track record of writing PLC programs from scratch for new equipment, not just maintaining existing code
Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Controls or Mechatronics Engineering, or a related field

Role Summary

We are building agentic AI systems that read complex models, drawings, specifications, and regulatory documents to check compliance, plan and validate schedules, and support design.

This role exists to make those agents trustworthy enough to act on.

This is a senior, hands-on quality role weighted toward testing non-deterministic AI and agentic systems. That is where most of your time sits and where the hiring bar is highest. You will also own the broader quality surface: integration, API, and performance testing are part of the remit, not out of scope.

The differentiator we are hiring for is the ability to define what "good" looks like when a system reasons, calls tools, and can be wrong in subtle ways.

You will scope, build, and run the frameworks yourself, with the independence of a senior engineer, and decide what to build first.

Key Responsibilities
