This role involves leading advisory engagements, ensuring GDPR and wider regulatory compliance, and offering practical, risk-based guidance to internal teams. Reporting to a Service Manager or Practice Lead, the successful candidate will be instrumental in managing data protection strategy, risk assessments, and client relationships.
Key Responsibilities
Deliver advisory services independently for clients, such as drafting privacy notices, briefing documents, consent models, and reviewing policies.Perform data protection impact assessments (DPIAs), gap analyses, risk assessments, and data mapping.Draft and review data sharing agreements, transfer impact assessments (TIAs), and service-level agreements (SLAs).Apply quality control and peer review processes to maintain high standards of accuracy and compliance.Identify, assess, and manage risks within privacy and data protection projects.Lead client-facing projects focused on data governance and regulatory compliance.Build and maintain effective relationships with clients and external stakeholders.Represent the privacy function at meetings, briefings, and site visits.Prepare clear reports, action plans, and project documentation.Support and mentor junior team members on privacy topics and project delivery.Coordinate project timelines, manage workflows, and ensure timely delivery.Monitor changes in data protection regulation and translate them into actionable business advice.Qualifications and Experience
Postgraduate qualification (LLM, MSc) in law, information governance, or a related field.Professional certification in data protection (e.g. CIPP/E, CIPM, or equivalent).At least 5 years of experience in data protection, privacy, or compliance roles.Proven experience conducting risk assessments and privacy audits in complex environments.Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects independently from start to finish.Strong background in a consultancy or advisory environment.Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage stakeholders effectively.
Preferred
Experience producing client-facing materials such as newsletters or briefings.Familiarity with international privacy frameworks (e.g. US, APAC).Basic understanding of cybersecurity principles
